Lionel Messi and Barcelona are currently on the verge of missing out on clinching the Spanish La Liga title this season and if they do, it is expected to come at a cost for almost everyone involved. Barca have failed a couple of games they have been expected to finish off, with the most recent of such game their league clash against Levante. The Camp Nou giants played Levante away from home and ended up dropping points after being unable to hang on to their lead and finishing the game 3-3.
Levante pulled level after scoring two goals in less than ten minutes. Dembele followed up his assist for De Jong with a goal to his name but not even the France international winger’s strike could guarantee all three points for Ronald Koeman’s men. They lost focus in defense and conceded a late third goal which tied the game 3-3.
Atletico Madrid’s win on Wednesday night saw them gripped their top spot tighter and now need to win their Teo remaining games for them to be confirmed Champions. Sevilla also beat Valencia at home to further tighten their place in the fourth position and also put pressure on Barcelona and Real Madrid who both occupy the second and third spots in the league table.
If Atlético do win the title at the end of the season, it would be their first league triumph since 2014 and it could spell the end of Ronald Koeman’s reign as Barcelona manager.
