Former Juventus striker David Trezeguet has said that one of the reasons for José Mourinho’s apparent failure at Real Madrid has been the success of Lionel Messi. Lionel Messi has been the best player not only in Spain, but also in the entire world as well over the last few years. The 24-year-old Argentine has been the chief cause of Barcelona winning 13 out of the 16 possible trophies in the last three seasons. José Mourinho arrived at Real Madrid with the view of stopping the dominance of Barcelona both domestically and in Europe. He has been not able to succeed in this regard, as he has been able to prevent Barcelona from winning the Copa del Ray only.
Former Inter Milan striker David Trezeguet reckons that the success of Lionel Messi has been extremely great in such a way that it has overshadowed the fact that José Mourinho has been excellent at Real Madrid. In any other era, the achievements of José Mourinho at Real Madrid would have not gone unnoticed. José Mourinho won the Champions league with both FC Porto and Inter Milan. He is now looking to become the first manager in the history of the game to have won the competition with three different clubs. However, they are likely to face Barcelona in the final of the Champions League this season.
“If Messi was not at the club, Mourinho would have earned 10 times more trophies than he has won. He is the best in the world. He takes the ball and goes one on one with the keeper six or seven times per game – he is outstanding among ten other outstanding players. Barcelona are bright, while Madrid, one of the best teams in the world, still live in the dark,” Trezeguet told Tyc Sports. Trezeguet currently plays for Argentine club River Plate.
