Barcelona star Lionel Messi has admitted that he would like to play in Argentina before eventually retiring. This would come as a major shock for Barcelona given that he has previously said that he would be more than happy to retire at the Catalan club.
Lionel Messi recently won the Ballon d’Or award of his career and there have been suggestions that Lionel Messi has nothing left to achieve at Barcelona. In fact, that is the truth because Lionel Messi has once every major trophy there is to win with Barcelona, with the only missing item from his trophy cabinet being the FIFA World Cup.
After receiving the award, Lionel Messi said that he would one day like to return to his home country Argentina where they would also like to finish his career. Lionel Messi has not presented an Argentine club in his career, as he moved to Barcelona at a relatively young age. Even though he is an Argentinian, he has more or less been like a Spaniard. Lionel Messi also reserve the huge amount of praise for Real Madrid winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who finished in the second place just ahead of his Barcelona teammate Xavi. Even though Cristiano Ronaldo scored more number of goals than Lionel Messi, he was unable to lift the award due to the lack of the Champions League medal.
“In Europe I want to play at Barcelona. I would stay here forever, the longer the better because I feel very comfortable and loved. But before I retire I want to play in my country, I am absolutely certain that I want to play in Argentina. It is a dream and I am going to make it come true,” the 24-year-old said after receiving the most prestigious award for any football player in the world.
